Wings was founded by Adam Knight in July 2013 at 22. Since teaching from the age of 16 at numerous leisure centres and private health clubs, it became clear to Adam that smaller class sizes and higher quality venues led to significantly faster progress. Adam entered the University of Southampton Take – Off Business Competition 2013, where he had to deliver a Dragon’s Den style pitch to the Deans of Enterprise, business and management. Despite a record number of applications, Adam went on to win and received £4000 prize money to help Wings Take Off. Read about the competition on the iSoton Blog.
Adam began by launching the Wings “Swim Safe Summer campaign”, where he delivered assemblies at 13 schools in Twickenham to over 3,900 children about the dangers of swimming. After assembling a team of 7 incredible teachers, Wings signed a contract with the Mall School in Twickenham, teaching 315 children an essential life skill.
The feedback from our parents was astounding: “Absolutely amazing my kids love it sooo much and their confidence in the water has rocketed!!! The instructors are brilliant with the kids and take time out to help each and everyone” - Sally Anne Menassa.
In September that year Wings moved in to their new home at the Nuffield Health Twickenham, as well as setting up partnerships with Eighth Level Health Club Osterley and Park Inn Hotel Heathrow. Wings now deliver lessons to 200 children at 3 venues across South West London. In the future we will be expanding our operations while still maintaining our mantra that smaller class sizes really do lead to better quality lessons and faster progress.
